Fancy yourself as a bit of a photographer? Do you like to take photos of things in their, erm, natural state?

Great Eastern Ranges in partnership with my *friends at Australian Traveller Magazine have just launched a photography competition with four different categories:

My Community – People who live and work in the Great Eastern Ranges

My Escape – Landscapes, places and activities in the Great Eastern Ranges

My Habitat – Flora and Fauna of the Great Eastern Ranges

Young Gun – A category for under 21 year olds. The photo submission can be of anywhere on the Great Eastern Ranges.

Never heard of the Great Eastern Ranges? That’s OK. They’re new. Well, they are not new, being mountains and all but the name is new (they were formerly known as the Great Dividing Range and the Great Escarpment).

Importantly, there are prizes (after winning the trip to Texas, I enter every competition in my path. Incidentally, I won Judy Nunn’s new book, Maralinga, yesterday – Gardiner’s Theory of Competitivity in action).

The prizes, awarded across all four categories, include:

• Three ultimate Coleman outdoor camping packages at a total value of $7500
• Three five-day all-inclusive rentals in a KEA vehicle of your choice at a total value of $6000
• Four Tamron AF 18-270 VC lenses at a total value of $5196
• Three luxury two-night packages at Lilianfels in the Blue Mountains, including dinner at Darley’s, at a total value of $3396

Some fancy people, namely Grenville Turner, George Suresh, Inger Van Dyke and Australian Traveller Editor Greg Barton, will judge the photos and the winners will have their images published in the April/May 2010 issue of Australian Traveller Magazine.
