Some nations really are funnier than others. The Irish raise a laugh wherever they go, as do the Scots. What is it about bleak weather and an oat-based diet that brings out such joviality?
Conversely, there are nations that seem to congenitally lack a sense of humour, namely Germany and Switzerland. Thai people, whilst big on the smiles, are not so big on the hilarity. Ditto the Vietnamese. It seems they haven’t had a lot to laugh about for the past three or four invasions.
What makes a nation funny? Is it British colonisation, a ready supply of alcohol or a total lack of ambition? And how does Australia stack up against the rest of the world?
The good news is that you can find out for yourself next weekend at the World’s Funniest Island comedy festival. In the name of research, the very kind festival organisers are giving SheGoes subscribers the chance to win one of two, two-day camping double passes valued at $209.90 each.
To win, all you need to do is email me at emmagardiner@iinet.net.au and tell me in 25 words or less which country has the funniest natives and why. The winning answers will be published on SheGoes and winners will be notified via email by Monday 12th October. For further information about this unbelievably cool prize, please visit http://www.worldsfunniestisland.com/
So who will it be? Jamaicans or Japanese? Indians or Iranians? You tell me for your chance to win!

The French are funny becasue they put frogs in their tummy and think they’re yummy but that’d make me go to the dunny!
