‘O’ Vegas

After hearing rave reviews from a friend, I had to see the ‘O’ Cirque Du Soleil show at The Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas but by the time we arrived in Vegas the show was sold out.

Since I was staying at the hotel anyway, I popped by the booking desk to see if any tickets had become available.  At that exact moment two seats opened up.  Did I jump at them with glee and promise to return with my credit card?  No.  The problem was my best friend and I had just spent three weeks shopping in New York.  We were not exactly flush with cash.  I thought I should run it by my friend before spending her hard earned money.  Big mistake!  By the time I took the express elevator upstairs and back again, the tickets were gone.

The lady on the ticket desk had mentioned there was a queue for cancellation tickets prior to every performance.  So after dinner we lined up.  I can’t remember when my friend bailed.  I on the other hand was resolved.  I was getting tickets.  Over the next hour and a half, people from the front of the queue, lost hope and began to wander off.  The people at the back were dropping like flies.

Eventually, I found myself front of the queue.  With ten minutes to spare, the ticket seller waved me over.  I had two tickets.

Walking into the auditorium I felt a tinge of doubt.  In front of me was a normal looking stage curtain, covering what seemed to be a standard stage. What happened when the curtain pulled back was anything but ordinary – tt was completely breathtaking!

Cirque Du Soleil fans will be aware of the dazzling acrobatics, the stunning costumes and the level of skill and expertise at which this group performs.  Now picture a 1.5 million gallon pool thrown into the mix. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the ‘O’ show is performed in and over water, lots and lots of water.

Have you ever watched a Cirque show and wondered what would happen if they fell?  Or is that just me?  In this show you get to see what would happen, though the falling is more diving and landing with strategic precision.

I spent the whole performance in awe, marvelling at the wonder unfolding in front of me.  It was worth every cent and every minute queuing.  Being my first Cirque Du Soleil performance made it all the more special.  For seasoned Cirque followers, the water adds a different element from their other shows.

With seven Cirque Du Soleil shows currently performing in Las Vegas, there is a lot to choose from. If you get the chance, treat yourself to ‘O but don’t follow my lead; buy your tickets in advance to secure your seats.

  1. I was basically drunk the entire time I was in Vegas so it’s highly possible I saw a show. I wouldn’t be able to tell you either way though.. I’m sure it was good.
