Winey wine wine
The kind folk at Stoneleigh sent me some of their new season Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris to try.
As you have probably guessed, I love wine. At any given time, my blood is between 5 and 50 per cent wine. I’m a travel and events journalist; it comes with the territory.
But here’s the thing: I drank a LOT of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc there for a while. Every time I left the house in a female wolf pack, out came the SB or SSB. I was practically pickled in it for about five years. Subsequently, I went off it.
When it came to picking which bottle to try, I lunged for the Pinot Gris. It was Friday afternoon, after all. The sweet, fruity, low acid wine was just the ticket. I cannot tell you anything else about it except that I liked it and my colleagues liked it too. We were all pleasantly delighted.
Next came the Sauvignon Blanc. Mysteriously, the wine lunging occurred again on a Friday, but this time late at night when I couldn’t sleep. Ever since the warmer weather has arrived, I CANNOT FREAKING SLEEP. I padded out into the lounge room, retrieved the chilled bottle of SB and headed for the roof.
As I lay under the stars, I discovered that the Stoneleigh SB tasted like summer. Not too acidic. Not too ‘cat’s wee’. Not too green capsicum. It’s was light and wonderful which was a huge surprise. So there you go. SB: back on the agenda for summer 2014.
The bottle looks quite good. Is there more information as to where we could get this wine from? does this ship internationally ?
