Travel Tales: Jack Carty (Look out America, he’s coming your way!)

Free to a good home – shiny new Australian musician

Before we launch into Jack’s excellent adventures, I have a very big favour to ask all of you.

Does anyone have any contacts in the hotel industry in the USA? Or even just a group of folk music-lovin’ friends who might be able to help Jack out with a place to stay on his upcoming trip to the States?

Think of it this way; if you had the chance to help out a rising star, would you? Jack is coming to the States to record an album and it’s costing a bazillion dollars. Subsequently, any offers of free or discounted accommodation would be met with undying gratitude. He might even dedicate a song to you!

Here’s his itinerary:

  • Los Angeles – Sunday 20th June – Sunday 27th June
  • Las Vegas – Sunday 27th June – Wednesday 30th June
  • Chicago – Wednesday 30th June – Sunday 4th July
  • New York – Sunday 4th July – Wednesday 21st July

The upside for you and your US-based friends is that Jack will play a gig for you for free! Need more convincing? Visit http://www.myspace.com/jackcarty to listen to Jack’s latest tracks.

Please comment on this story if you can help out and I will put you in touch with young Mr Carty.

Travel Tales

Name:  Jack Carty

Age: 23

Occupation: Musician

Favourite travel destination? New York City

Why?: Its all about the vibe – I love the energy the minute you walk onto the street and the little pieces of cultural history everywhere you look.

Worst travel experience? The commute to my old day job…

What happened?: I quit.

Best tips for beating jetlag?: Hit the ground running and play scrabble to stay awake.

What is the one thing you don’t leave home without?: My acoustic guitar.

Do you stay in touch with people while you’re travelling? If so, what is the best way to do this? A cheeky email is always good! But you have to call your mum – so for that I use phone cards…. Or you could just take everyone with you?

Best meal you’ve ever had while travelling?: Some very strange looking Sashimi from a little restaurant in Tokorozawa, Japan. It was right in the city but had a veggie garden next door! I wish I could remember its name!

Best kiss?: Ellen Harding, Byron Bay, 2009.

Best/scariest/funniest drive?: Up and down the Hills of San Francisco with a taxi driver who claimed he hadn’t slept for two days.

What has been the big WOW moment of your travelling life?: Hanging out on a beautiful beach in Lifou, New Caledonia. The water was about 23 degree’s Celsius and there was a small community of Lifouans living just off the beach who shared their lunch with us. One experience that was even better than the postcards…
