Gold thread

If you imagine that every day is a thread in a tapestry that you are weaving, ask yourself: what colour was today?

The cumulative effect will be visible when you finish. The mistakes, the design choices, the colours and complexity.

What do you want the overall picture to look like? Every single day contributes to the outcome.

Some people unconsciously weave in dull colours. They go for brown, grey, black. Go to work, come home. Go to the gym, do tax, watch TV.

What will the result be? Depending on their skill and vision, it might very beautiful.  As Buddha said, ‘Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water’.

I am not saying we should ignore our responsibilities, or that every day has to be extraordinary.

I just want people to remember to seek out the gold thread. That it’s there, waiting, and it’s free.

Everyone has to figure out what their daily gold thread is, but for me, it’s my son, my husband, my garden and my inner creative life.

There are big, bright patches of life with friends, family and celebration, and there are completely black days, dogged by sorrow.

But day-to-day? I have found my gold.

Have you found yours?
