Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach Girl’s weekend

It is a rare and precious thing for all my sisters, my Mum and my eldest niece to be in the same place, at the same time. We wanted to stay somewhere a) with a beach, b) with a bar and c) with somewhere to go walking so that’s why we chose Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach.

The occasion was my niece’s 18th birthday, a coming of age that has us scratching our heads. Huh? Eighteen years since we first held that big-eyed bub? Eighteen years of ballet, and pony club, and joyously uninhibited singing and dancing around the house?

In the way of best laid plans, our hopes of doing the Coogee to Bronte coastal walk together and swimming in the McIver’s women’s baths were blown away, and then washed down a storm water drain by 120mls of rain.

So what’s a girl to do?

We busted open the bubbles and handmade chocolates, kindly supplied by the hotel, and came up with a Plan B that quickly turned into a Plan ‘P’ (for Peter’s of Kensington and a painting workshop).

Some of my favourite things at Peter’s of Kensington + complimentary bubbles and chocolates

That sorted out the day, and in the evening, we headed over the hill to Wet Paint in Bronte, went for drinks at the Coogee Bay Hotel (my niece’s first legal drinks in a pub), and on the Sunday morning, we waddled like waterlogged ducks down to Barzura in Coogee for a restorative breakfast with an Asian twist.

Even with the rain, we had a brilliant time. Why? Because you don’t need to leave the hotel to have fun. There’s a tequila bar and taqueria downstairs, Hamptons-inspired Shutters bar and restaurant, as well as a karaoke room, in-room dining, in-house movies and hey, we had each other! We booked interconnecting rooms so we mostly hung out chatting in each others’ rooms.

The verdict? Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach is the perfect place to spend a girl’s weekend, even in torrential rain.

With on-site parking for guests, there’s no stress for out-of-towners when it comes to parking their cars. The hotel has everything you could possibly want for a fun weekend right there in-house but if you want to go out, there’s also a whole world of dining, drinking, swimming, walking and yoga options right on the doorstep.
