Hotel Review: Vibe Hotel Rushcutters
There is something undeniably delicious about staying in a hotel in your hometown. It’s a bit like drinking Champagne in your pyjamas – all the pleasure without any of the inconvenience.
When my very dear friend Tess asked me if I would like to stay at Vibe Hotel Rushcutters, I couldn’t accept quickly enough. I had two days off, 3000 words to finish and a frivolous desire to write them in a rockstar fashion (i.e. from a hotel bed).
Vibe Hotel Rushcutters is set next to a park that overlooks Sydney Harbour. It’s a short roll down the hill from Kings Cross in one direction and Edgecliff in the other, making it the perfect Eastern Suburbs accommodation because it’s right in the middle of everything.
My room – lucky number 513 – is squeaky clean, well-appointed and has a spotless bathroom decorated with mermaid hued glass tiles. There is a mini-bar, cable TV, a vast, comfortable bed and a decorative wooden panel that serves as a head board.
In a stroke of unexpected hospitality, the hotel manager delivers a bottle of Shiraz and a Max Brenner chocolate pack to my room. The candied, choc-coated pecans last about five minutes but I hold off on the chocolate bubble bath and wine … I still have to finish my work, don’t I?
Hours later, I dig into the mini-bar only to discover, les horreur, no gin! Q: What kind of lonely, pathetic writer doesn’t drink gin? A: The kind that drinks wine (so I open the bottle). I drift off to sleep in the thrall of trashy TV, crispy white sheets and a blissfully quiet room. Ahhh …
… I wake up at 10.49am, 11 minutes before check-out.
And on that note, I would like to apologise to the reception staff for the mad-haired woman who checked out last Friday. She, erm, slept in a bit.

Tell me, Monday-itis sufferers, have you ever stayed at Vibe Rushcutters? If so, what did you think? Double thumbs up?
