Hotel review: Vibe Hotel Darling Harbour
Are you looking for a convenient bolt hole in the city? Vibe Hotel Darling Harbour is the hotel for you. Here’s the 101 if you’re thinking of booking.
The rooms: Small but well-appointed. Brand new so very feels fresh, comfy beds and very quiet. No bath. Black out curtains in the rooms. Tea and coffee making facilities.
The location: Easily walkable to ICC Sydney Theatre, located on the next block over from Tetsuya’s (we could see the back of the restaurant from our room), close to Darling Harbour, Chinatown and walkable to CBD bars and The Rocks (about 20 mins).
There’s an Indonesian restaurant called Shalom a few doors down and a Peruvian cafe on the corner for something a bit different.
Public Transport: Get off at Town Hall Station and walk down to Sussex St. This will take about 5 minutes.
Bar and cafe: Above 319 is a cute little rooftop bar that serves some delicious bar snacks and has cider and beer on tap. The pool is adjacent to the bar but is raised so you can’t really look out over it.
The Sussex Store cafe downstairs was the highlight for me. Friendly, efficient service, a $21 Big Brekkie that helped sort out my monster hangover, fresh juice mixes and soothing modern decor. Breakfast is not included in the room rate.
The verdict: This is not a destination hotel but it is the perfect launching pad for anything you need to do in the city. It’s functional, it’s clean and it’s monastery quiet.
Being so close to ICC Sydney, and walkable to Capitol Theatre, staying at Vibe Hotel Darling Harbour means that you can easily go and see a show and walk home afterwards. You can also watch the Darling Harbour fireworks from the rooftop bar every Saturday night and there is a huge variety of cheap eats nearby if you want to dine out.
