Blossom Media lives: A freelancer by any other name …

blossom-media-livesI love freelancing. I love walking downstairs in the morning, making a cup of coffee and switching on my computer. I love wearing my pyjamas until noon and listening to my music while I work.
I feel much more peaceful when I work from home. I nap when I’m tired, I make fresh salads for lunch and I walk the dogs when I am itching for a break.
As of June 30, I have been contracting and freelancing for two years. This is a real milestone for me. When I took the leap, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to pay rent, let alone make a decent living.
It turns out that it’s worked wonderfully well.
The next step in this adventure towards living a happier life is creating a name for myself and my freelancer friends.
Our brand is called Blossom Media; part freelancer directory, part events management company, part Creative Communications community.
Why Blossom? The answer is simple: we want to help people’s creative ideas bloom into commercial reality. The dictionary puts it beautifully: ‘The state of flowering;to flourish, develop, open’.
I want us all to live juicier, more joyful lives and for me, that means freedom, independence and creativity. This quote sums it up nicely: ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it.’
What is your employment dream? What would make you leap out of bed in the morning?

  1. I love freelancing too, and my routine is similar to yours: not having to dress up (although I can play dress ups!), listening to my own music, walking my dogs when it’s still light in winter… And not having to endure office politics makes for a happier me. Next month marks 1 year since I left full time work, and while it hasn’t exactly been plain sailing since then, things are starting to pick up. The challenging thing about freelancing is that when you’re not working you’re working at FINDING work! Congratulations on launching Blossom Media, Emma! I’m really excited to be a part of it!

  2. Congrats Em, I’m glad you are living your work dream. It’s important to find something you love doing that actually can pay the bills. But honestly I don’t think there is a job in the world that would make me leap out of bed in the morning – I like sleeping too much!

  3. You do describe the freelancing thing awfully nicely, and make it sound very appealing.

Being a freelancer myself, I’m also privvy to these benefits and perks.

Well done Em. So glad you are so happy and content in your role xx
